The loan divided by the value of the gold is the loan-to-value. For a loan you spend, rather than a business loan, the cap depends on the size of the amount being tested. It is 85% at ₹2,50,000 or less. It is 80% above that, up to ₹5,00,000. It is 75% above ₹5,00,000. Lenders had to follow this by 1 April 2026.
For a bullet loan, the amount in that test is the loan plus the interest due at the end. For an EMI, or a loan where you pay interest every month and the principal at the end, the test uses the loan itself. The cap has to hold for the whole loan, not only on day one.
The value is the gold at the purity you pick. This page does not treat every piece as 22 carat. Stones and gems are left out. The 12% interest rate is a starting point you can change. It is not a lender’s card.
Today’s rate and the loan per gram
The form starts at ₹12,730 a gram for 22K, ₹13,888 for 24K, and ₹10,416 for 18K. Indicative rate as on 1 Nov 2026, 11:02 AM IST, excluding GST. The same figures are on the gold rate page. Change the rate if your city or your jeweller’s quote is different. The loan per gram is the maximum loan divided by the weight.
A worked example: 50 grams of 22K
50 grams of 22K at ₹12,730 a gram is ₹6,36,500. On a bullet loan at 12% for 12 months, the highest loan is ₹4,46,429. Interest on that loan is ₹53,571, so ₹5,00,000 is due at the end. That is 78.6% of the gold. The cap for a due amount of ₹5,00,000 is 80%. One rupee more would put the amount due above ₹5,00,000, where the cap falls to 75%, and this gold is not worth enough for that. The loan per gram is ₹8,929.
Ten grams of the same 22K gold is ₹1,27,300. The highest bullet loan at the same rate and tenure is ₹96,612, about ₹9,661 a gram. A smaller loan can sit in a higher cap, so the loan per gram is not one fixed number.
EMI, bullet, and interest only
The same ₹6,36,500 of gold, repaid as an EMI at 12% for 12 months, can support ₹5,00,000. The EMI on that amount is ₹44,424. Total interest is ₹33,093. An EMI uses the loan itself in the cap, so the principal can be higher than on a bullet loan, where the interest due at the end counts too.
Interest only, on that same ₹5,00,000, is ₹5,000 a month. You still owe the principal at the end. A bullet loan has no monthly payment. You pay ₹5,00,000 once, at 12 months, if you take the maximum. A bullet consumption loan stops at 12 months. The EMI and interest-only sliders go to 60 months, which is a typical range, not a rule.
What happens if gold falls
The cap has to hold for the life of the loan. On the 50 gram bullet example, the gold price can fall about 1.8% before the amount due crosses the cap. Past that, you may have to repay part of the loan or pledge more gold. This page shows the drop. It does not guess what a lender will ask you to do.
A bullet loan can be renewed only after the interest so far is paid. The new loan is tested again, and the interest due at the end of the new term is part of that test.
A gold loan and a personal loan
A gold loan uses the jewellery as security, and the amount stops at the cap above. A personal loan does not need gold. The personal loan EMI calculator is the instalment on an unsecured loan, including a fee. The EMI calculator is the same reducing-balance maths for a home, car, or personal loan. Owning gold, and the tax when you sell it, are covered in the gold options guide and the tax on gold guide. More loan tools sit on loans and home.

Questions
Does the calculator treat all gold as 22 carat?
No. Pick 24K, 22K or 18K and the value uses that purity’s rate per gram. Stones and gems are not part of the value. Enter the weight of the gold, not the weight of the piece with stones in it.
What if the gold has stones?
Stones are left out of the value. A lender weighs the gold and uses the purity of the metal. This page does the same: you type the gold weight and the purity.
Can a bullet gold loan be renewed?
A bullet consumption loan runs for at most 12 months. It can be renewed only after the interest so far is paid. The cap still has to hold on the renewed loan, and for a bullet loan that test includes the interest due at the end.
