The contribution for the pension you want, from the scheme chart. You pick a joining age from 18 to 40, a pension from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 a month, and whether you pay monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly.
You join between 18 and 40. From 60 you get a fixed pension of ₹1,000, ₹2,000, ₹3,000, ₹4,000, or ₹5,000 a month. The pension is the guaranteed part. Your spouse gets the same pension after you.
The contribution is the amount on the scheme chart for your joining age, the pension, and how often you pay. This page looks the figure up. It does not multiply a monthly amount by three and call that the quarterly contribution. The chart’s quarterly and half-yearly amounts are a little lower than a plain multiple.
The contribution chart
The table under the form lists every joining age for the frequency you pick. The highlighted row is the age on the slider, and the highlighted column is the pension. Change the frequency to see the quarterly or half-yearly chart. The amount does not change with a market return. It is fixed for the age at which you join.
A worked example: join at 25 for ₹5,000
Join at 25 for a pension of ₹5,000 a month. The monthly contribution is ₹376. You pay it for 35 years, which is ₹1,57,920 in all. From 60 the pension is ₹5,000 a month.
The chart puts an indicative corpus of ₹8,50,000 against a ₹5,000 pension. The other slabs are ₹1,70,000, ₹3,40,000, ₹5,10,000, and ₹6,80,000. The amount a nominee actually receives is the pension wealth built by age 60. That can differ from the chart figure. Treat ₹8,50,000 as a guide, not a promise of a cheque for that exact sum.
Who cannot open a new account
From 1 October 2022, a person who is an income-tax payer, or has been one, cannot open a new account. Becoming a taxpayer later does not close an account you already have. This page still shows the chart, so you can see the contribution. It does not check your tax status.
Atal Pension Yojana and NPS
This scheme pays a pension you choose, from a contribution the chart fixes. The National Pension System is a market-linked account: the corpus depends on what you pay and on the return. That estimate is the NPS calculator, and the rules are in NPS explained. Two other small covers, for life and accident, are in PMJJBY and PMSBY. Scheme tools are on government schemes, and retirement tools are on retirement.

Questions
What happens if I miss a payment?
A delayed monthly contribution costs ₹1 for every ₹100, or part of ₹100, for each month of delay. Paying late does not cancel the pension on its own. Keep the account funded if you want the guaranteed pension.
Can I leave before 60?
You can exit before 60. The amount you receive is the pension wealth built so far. Someone who joined early enough to get a government co-contribution does not get that co-contribution back. Accounts opened now do not get a co-contribution.
What does the spouse get?
After the subscriber dies, the spouse gets the same pension. If the subscriber dies before 60, the spouse can keep paying until the subscriber would have turned 60, or take the pension wealth built so far.
