Buying silver in Chennai

There is no separate Chennai silver rate in our figures. The retail card is the India shop benchmark. A T. Nagar bill can be higher once the shop adds making charges.

  • Ask for grams on the bill if the shop quotes a tola.

Frequently asked questions

Does this page publish a separate Chennai silver rate?

No. Market and retail are the India figures. A Chennai shop, including one in T. Nagar or Sowcarpet, sets its own quote. Compare that quote with the retail card.

Which of the two silver rates is closer to a shop quote?

The retail rate. It includes a typical shop margin. The market rate is the wholesale benchmark and is the lower of the two. Making charges sit on top of either one.

What will a Chennai bill add that this page leaves out?

Making charges, and GST if you are looking at the rate before tax. The GST switch adds 3% to the metal only. Stones, wastage and the shop’s own margin are on the bill, not in the card.

How do I check a silver article’s weight against this rate?

Use the gram row, the 10 g row, the tola row (11.66 g) or the kilogram row. The box lower down prices any other weight. Do not assume a tola is 12 g.

Are the petrol and diesel prices Chennai’s?

Yes. The side column shows the Chennai retail price per litre for petrol and for diesel. The silver cards stay on the India rate. A fuel station can differ slightly.
