Buying silver in Delhi
A Chandni Chowk silver quote is still a shop price. Set it beside the retail card, at the same weight. The market card is the wholesale benchmark and will usually be lower.
- Take the retail card to Chandni Chowk. The market card is the wholesale line.
- Ask for the weight in grams even if the shop quotes a tola.
- GST of 3% can be switched on for the metal. It is not a making charge.
- A Delhi shop can still write a different number. The invoice is the price you pay.
Frequently asked questions
Which silver number should I take to Chandni Chowk?
The retail rate. It is what jewellers and shops typically quote, and it includes a margin. It is still not a promise of the number on a Chandni Chowk bill.
Will a Delhi shop match the retail rate?
Treat the retail rate as a starting point for the metal. Making charges, the city and the design can all move the bill. Read the invoice before you pay.
Is GST the same thing as a making charge?
No. GST is a tax on the sale. On this page it is 3% of the metal when you switch it on. A making charge is the shop’s fee for the work. There is no single government rate for that fee.
Why is the kilogram line not 1,000 times the rounded gram?
The per-gram market rate on the card is rounded to the nearest rupee so it is easy to read. The per-kilogram line keeps the checked kilogram figure. Use each line for its own weight.
What else on this page is a Delhi figure?
Petrol and diesel in the side column are the Delhi retail prices per litre. Silver and gold on this site are India rates. The Delhi gold page uses the same gold figures as the national page.
