Buying silver in Mumbai
Silver in Zaveri Bazaar is quoted by the shop, often per kilogram as well as per gram. The two cards are the India market rate and the India retail rate. A Mumbai bill can sit above the retail card once making charges are added.
- Set a Zaveri Bazaar silver quote beside the retail card, at the same weight.
- The market card is the wholesale benchmark. It is usually lower than a shop quote.
- Making charges are not in either card. They belong on the bill.
- One tola is 11.66 g if the shop still sells by tola. Ask for the gram weight as well.
Frequently asked questions
Is the silver rate in Mumbai the same as this India rate?
The cards are the indicative India silver rate, split into a market rate and a retail rate. They are not a Zaveri Bazaar board. A Mumbai shop can quote a different retail price.
Why are there two silver rates?
Market rate is the wholesale benchmark. Retail rate is what jewellers and shops typically quote, and it includes their margin. Start with the retail card when you are about to walk into a shop. Making charges are still extra.
Does a Zaveri Bazaar silver bill match the retail card?
Not necessarily. The retail card is a typical shop quote for the metal, not a ceiling. The shop can add making charges, and one Mumbai shop can differ from the next. Read the invoice.
How should I read the per-gram and per-kilogram lines?
The per-gram market figure on the card is rounded to the nearest rupee. The per-kilogram line keeps the checked kilogram figure, so it will not always be a neat thousand times the rounded gram. Use the kilogram line for a kilo.
Which figures on this page are actually Mumbai’s?
The petrol and diesel prices in the side column are the Mumbai retail prices we publish, per litre. The silver cards are India figures. Gold for the same day is on the Mumbai gold page.
